The March Violets

Rosie Garland: Original female vocalist with the Violets, Rosie has returned in all her glory. With a fabulous stage presence and strong vocal range, (all the more incredible for fighting and beating throat cancer in 2009-2010) she is a perfect partner to Si Denbigh to give the Violets twice the full-frontal vocal attack. In 1984, after recording Snake Dance, Rosie left to work in Sudan, Africa. She returned to develop a variety of performance projects. These included touring with the Subversive Stitch exhibition in the 90s and commissioned shows for It’s Queer Up North. Most notable of her creations is…
Si Denbigh: Founding member of the March Violets, the male part of the vocals, certainly not your average skinny Goth Boy. It is Si's dark and twisted imagination, skewed sense of humour and punk pop sensibility that leads the Violets into places no one else goes. Si formed pre-grunge rockmonsters the Batfish Boys in 1985 after leaving the Violets, signing to Motorhead's GW records. Described by Kerrang magazine as 'the Executive Son of Satan' Si maintains he is actually a very nice chap, and a genius. He later created D-Rok, toured with UFO and recorded an LP for Games Workshop…
Tom Ashton: Tom's unique searing jagged guitar style defines the instrumental sound of the March Violets, and has had many copyists throughout the years. Raised in Scotland Tom lived through a local wave of Post Punk from the Scars, Skids, Positive Noise, the Freeze and the early Associates. He decided to pick up a guitar after seeing Echo and the Bunnymen and the Cocteau Twins. Tom now lives deep in the woods of the American Gothic South, and happily shares his lot with bats, spiders and a few rattlesnakes. In his chequered career Tom has guested for The Sisters of…
Jo Violet: The newest Violet. Jo joined for the 2010 reunion gig in London and has become a permanent fixture. Her sensitive but powerful Bass playing perfectly suits the band, who have always thought that Chick Bass Players are undoubtedly the best. Jo previously played bass, keyboards, violin and sang (not all at once) in the Screaming Banshee Aircrew. She has recently performed the part of Gilda in the opera Rigoletto, and has a degree from Oxford University in something complicated to do with computing.
