The March Violets Bios

Rosie Garland

Rosie Garland

Original female vocalist with the Violets, Rosie has returned centre stage in all her glory. With a fabulous stage presence and strong vocal range, all the more incredible for fighting and beating throat cancer in 2010.

Tom Ashton

Tom’s unique searing jagged guitar style defines the instrumental sound of the March Violets, and never did what was expected. Raised in Scotland, Tom was fired up by Post Punk: The Scars, Skids, Positive Noise, the Freeze and the early Associates. He decided to pick up a guitar after seeing Echo and the Bunnymen and the Cocteau Twins. Tom has played for The Sisters of Mercy and toured and recorded with Clan of Xymox. He lives deep in the woods of the American Gothic South, the location of his famous music studio Sub Von Studios.

Mat Thorpe

The March Violets are delighted to welcome our new bassist and vocalist Mat Thorpe. He played expert bass at our 2007 Homecoming Reunion gig in Leeds. Since then, he’s been a behind-the-scenes member of Team Violet, & is now stepping stage front for 2024 and beyond.
